Karimnagar: Erratic power supply is not the problem of farmers alone. Customers of various banks are also facing inconvenience due to the irregular power supply as automatic teller machines (ATMs) are conking out frequently. The problem is prominent in rural areas, compared to urban areas, as power outages are more in villages.
Usually, bank authorities arrange backup sources for the ATMs to enable uninterrupted services to the customers. But the power cuts are so prolonged that even these sources are getting drained leading to total shutdown of the machine.
The ‘out of service’ board at many ATM kiosks has proved a trouble to the customers in the last 2-3 days when the banks did not function due to festival holidays. The power outages for nearly 5-6 hours in a day have hit the functioning of ATMs. Further, the restriction on number of transactions in ATMs of non-home banks is another issue which has put the customers to trouble.
As per the rules, customers will have to pay Rs20 on every transaction made outside their home banks after five, the limit for free service. The advent of ATMs had made cash withdrawal easy and use of ATMs has increased so much that every person visits it at least once in two days.
