New take on things: A working still of Gundeninda Gudigantalu, starring Jagapathi Babu and Meera Nandan.

Doctor-turned-filmmaker Viplove is making his debut this year with Gundeninda Gudigantalu starring Jagapathi Babu and Meera Nandan. While the young director from Tirupati is not big on the technical aspects of filmmaking, he has lots of ideas. “Since childhood, I used to read lots of Russian literature. After my school books I would read only literature,” says Viplove.

He adds that he wanted to enter films after completing his education and interestingly, he became a doctor. But since he did not want to “travel on two boats”, he decided to give up medicine and joined the L.V. Prasad Film School in Chennai.

“Filmmaker Madhu Murali, who is a family friend, helped me. He knew that I was interested in films and asked me if I had any subjects,” says Viplove. With Madhu Murali’s help, he narrated the story to Jagapathi Babu who agreed immediately to do it. Meera Nandan plays the female lead. “Actually they are not lovers in the film but they are in a platonic relationship. The subject is the relationship between a mentor and a student,” he says.

The film is complete and Viplove plans to release it in November end. “The first few days I struggled because the whole atmosphere was new to me. But Jagapathi Babu helped me to complete the film. He guided me too.”
