Coimbatore: A huge old tree fell on Sathiamurthy Road in Ramnagar due to the heavy rains that lashed Coimbatore on Sunday night. The falling tree also led to power disruption in the neighbourhood.
"Though I had written several times to the corporation, urging them to cut down the weak tree, all my demands went unheeded. Now the tree has got uprooted. A major mishap was averted as the tree fell during the night as a large number of people walk the stretch during the day," said Ms Latha Sampath Kumaran, a resident of Sathiamurthy Road.
Though a major part of the tree that fell on the road was cleared immediately by fire service personnel, some tree branches still lay inside their house. "Also the power, which went off during the tree fall, has not been restored," she lamented.
