Hyderabad: The Centre is offering tax benefits to corporates to encourage them to adopt villages, wards and town as their corporate social responsibility in an effort to give a further boost to its flagship Swachh Bharat programme.
Union minister M. Venkaiah Naidu said, “Several companies are coming forward to adopt wards in cities, towns and villages, offering to build a certain number of toilets, and take up cleanliness activity under the Swachh Bharat campaign. They will be given certain tax benefits.”
He told the media here on Monday that the Swachh Bharat programme was not a political statement but a cultural movement involving all stakeholders. The Centre is also writing to actors and sports personalities to become part of the campaign, he added.
He said there was a need for change the mindset to make the country clean and tidy. Effective measures should be taken for solid waste management and making environment healthy, he said, adding that public private partnership was required for achieving these objectives.
“I have spoken to all the governors, political leaders, religious institutions and celebrities to spread the message of this movement,” Mr Venkaiah Naidu said.
