Chennai: Dismissing as “misinformation campaign” the alleged attempts to implicate his party in Bengaluru court verdict in the disproportionate assets case of the former Chief Minister Jayalalithaa, BJP national secretary H. Raja said his party never interfered with the course of law. Taking strong exception to those behind this “false propaganda” Mr Raja said even from the times of Mr A.B. Vajpayee, former Prime Minister, his party never tolerated corruption.

“The BJP neither interfered with the course of law (in the disproportionate assets case) nor supported graft. During the tenure of Vajpayee, Sedapatti R. Muthiah (then Union surface transport minister) was asked to resign as he was chargesheeted in a corruption case,” the senior leader said.

“We had no role in influencing the court to deliver such a verdict. The charges are false,” he said and indicated that the “misinformation campaign” was launched by a section in the state to tarnish the saffron party’s image.
Speaking to DC after launching the Swachch Bharat Abhiyan at the Vadapalani bus stand here on Monday evening, Mr Raja urged the political parties to desist from indulging in a “motivated” campaign against Karnataka over the disproportionate assets case verdict.
“This is not desirable from the national point of view…. they should desist from indulging in such a vilification campaign,” he said.
