The Crew fails to impress

Races and missions in game available in the beta weren’t too interesting

The Crew's visuals are not up to the mark
Up until this weekend, The Crew was easily the most anticipated racing title launching this year. However after a relatively poor Beta, it seems like it might not be everything it’s been built up to be. Right off the bat, the game’s visuals look nothing like anything that has been showcased so far. But judging a game solely on its visuals isn’t done and I’m all for that.

However for a racing game, The Crew’s driving mechanics are horrible to say the least with little or no feedback. It seems like an arcade racer from the 90’s which isn’t what anyone was expecting. It seems to be a slight upgrade to the driving mechanics in Watch Dogs, which had some of the worst driving I have seen in a modern game. Not only that, the Heads Up Display just crowds out your screen making it extremely annoying to play.

Despite that, I was willing to give the game the benefit of the doubt but it still came up short. The ‘long scenic’ drives across USA were less than impressive as I found myself bored as I drove from Detroit to Las Vegas.  Even the races and missions in game available in the beta weren’t too interesting. Taking all this into account, I’m not too surprised Ubisoft just announced a delay to The Games launch and a new Crew Beta in November.
