Farmers closed shops in Uzhavar Sandhai and Tasmac employees staged a fast

CoimbatoreIt turned out to be yet another day of protests against the conviction of AIADMK general secretary J. Jayalalithaa. Farmers closed shops in Uzhavar Sandhai and Tasmac employees staged a fast. 
 
AIADMK functionaries hoisted black flags atop their houses in Tirupur district on Tuesday evening after bail was rejected for the party secretary.
 
On Tuesday morning, hundreds of AIADMK cadres, including mayor P. Rajkumar, staged a fast in Singanallur, seeking the immediate release of the former chief minister. 
 
About 100 AIADMK members, led by deputy mayor Leelavathi Unni, pulled the golden chariot at the famous Thandumariamman temple in Coimbatore.
 
Farmers at Uzhavar Sandhais in R.S. Puram, Singanallur and Vadavalli closed their shops for the day and staged demonstrations in front of their respective markets.
 
Hundreds of shops and small-scale industry units in Ganapathy were closed. 
The Rathinapuri Traders Association also conducted a one-day strike by closing shops in Tatabad, Sivanandha Colony, Six Corners and Sastri Street.
 
AIADMK's Coimbatore rural district wing organised a milk pot rally in the city near Sugunapuram in Kuniyamuthur on Tuesday, seeking the release of Ms Jayalalithaa. A total of 2,008 women carried milk pots and went in a procession to the Palani Andavar temple in Kuniamuthur.
 
Thousands of powerloom unit workers struck work in Coimbatore and Tirupur.
