Kochi: Mahendra Singh Dhoni knows a thing or two about pushing his teammates to bring out the best in them. But rarely does he draw comparisons out in the public to let his players know where they stand. The Indian skipper, however, was critical of his fast bowlers, who have been faltering in length bowling at death overs. Dhoni has urged them to keep an eye out on the way it is done by other experts.
“A definite concern for us is, of course, death bowling,” said Dhoni. “One thing that is common in all the good death bowlers irrespective of which team they play for is bowling Yorkers and they mix it up with length balls or slow deliveries,” he added.
Though he gave credit to Mohammed Shami for executing the art of yorkers quite diligently in recent times he has adviced —Umesh Yadav, Mohit Sharma and Bhuvneshwar Kumar to step up.
“We don’t have too many fast bowlers who are quick as well as consistent with their line and length. It’s good to have pace, but if you have control it is a blessing. “You may have a few variations but it is still important to have the yorker up your sleeve. It is non-negotiable,” said Dhoni.
It is clear the Indian captain wants to address the fast bowling issue before the World Cup and the pressure is now on the bowlers as he reiterated: “We have to execute it more”.
