Bengaluru: A day after the High Court rejected her bail application the former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa spent another quiet day in the prison with her close associates and co-accused Sasikala Natarajan and Ilavarasi.

“She is composed and is having normal prison meals. Her health parameters are normal and she is under constant supervision by prison doctors. She was initially disturbed to hear the news of her bail being rejected, but she gained her composure and rested well last night,” said official sources.

Ms Jayalalithaa has so far not asked for any favour from the prison officials and remains aloof. “She has been the Chief Minister thrice and she knows the prison rules,” said the officer on condition of anonymity. The Prison Department has made contingency plans of shifting her to a premium government hospital in case of a medical emergency, but so far she has reportedly refused to go to any of the hospitals even for a medical checkup to avoid unnecessary media glare, said the officer.
