Last rites performed to victims of road mishap
The Maharashtra police verified the identification documents of the dead pilgrims
VIJAYAWADA: The Chilakalapudi village is in deep mourning as the bodies of the deceased in Sholapur road mishap reached there on Wednesday morning. The uncontrollably weeping family members performed the last rites of the deceased.
Chilakapudi CI T. Satyana-rayana received the bodies at Shamshabad airport in Hyderabad from Sholapur police around 2 am.
The Maharashtra police verified the identification documents of the dead pilgrims and handed over the bodies to the Chilakalapudi police.
The state police arranged six ambulances for the bodies to be taken by the members of six families.
Mr Satyanarayana said, “We cannot shift the bodies somewhere on the road. So, selected the cargo area of the Samshabad airport to shift the bodies from the ambulances of Maharashtra to ours. We handed over the bodies to the respective family members upon arrival.”
The relatives made preparations for the last journey of their beloved ones before their bodies reached the village by 8 am. The uncontrollable family members performed the last rites as per the customs.
By one or other way, all of the dead are well known to Chilakalapudi villagers.
