Rating: 3 stars

Another small film ‘Dikkulu Choodaku Ramayya’ with another debutant director Trikoti releases. This year a few small films show the impact at the box-office with different concepts, and this film too comes in those categories. Sai Korrapati, who produced the blockbuster ‘Eega’, is producer for this film.

The story revolves around 36-year-old father Gopala Krishna (Ajay) and his 18-year-old son Madhu (Naga Shaurya). Gopalakrishna, a bank employee, gets married at an very early age and had two sons. His wife Bhavani (Indraja) is a typical house wife and more on devotional side. He realizes that he missed all his young life and wanted to start new leaf at his late 30s. At that time he meets with this girl Sameeta (Sana Maqbool), a young aerobics teacher. Gopala Krishna helped her with money in a loan case and they became good friends. But things turn around when Madhu meets Sameeta and he falls in love with her. Both father and son compete for the same girl. Will Gopala Krishna left the family and starts a new life with Sameeta or Madhu make his father to realize the truth? That’s the bottom of the storyline.

Director Trikoti is making his debut with a different subject. Though it looks a bit unusual where the father and son falls for the same girl, but the director cleverly manages to make it as an entertainer. Moreover he chooses a different cast, only small stars and new faces, which is worked out better for him. Ajay, who is popular as villain, is a talented actor and this film is one for him to prove his capability as an actor. The film revolves more around him and he takes his character well.

Naga Shaurya plays Ajay’s son character and he perfectly fit into a teenage boy and does his part well. His performance shows only in the second half once after he comes to know that his father too falls in love with the same girl he loves. Sana Maqbool is making his debut as a female lead with this film, and she emotes well. It is clear that she does her home work and she perfectly fit into the role. Brahmaji played as Ajay’s friend, done a good job. His presence felt as he made a few laughs with his comic actions. The music is by MM Keeravani and it should be special mention as he provided good music. The songs are nice and it travels with the story. Another highlight of the film is art work. Ravinder has done a good job and especially the full moon scene is very nice. With a good art work in the background, the cinematographer makes the film in a neat way. There are no vulgar or double meaning dialogues, to a certain extent are very natural.

There are a few drawbacks too. The story is predictable and dragged few times. The director follow in a traditional way to tell the story and sometimes you feel a little bit bore for the slow narration. Ali’s comic scenes are not worked out well. Finally, you can watch ‘Dikkulu Choodaku Ramayya’ once, and should appreciate the debutant director for his good effort to come up with a new subject.
