Hyderabad: Tension mounted in the city on Thursday after news spread of the death of 11-year-old Shaik Mustafa, who was allegedly set on fire by two Army officials in a high security military area at Mehdipatnam on Wednesday night.

Protests, mild stone-pelting and lathicharges took place as locals demanded justice. The entry gate of the Mehdipatnam Military Garrison was restricted to the public and media and only residents with Army-certified identity cards were allowed entry.

Over 2,000 people participated in the Janaza (funeral) from the victim’s home at Filter Basti to the graveyard in First Lancer, Siddiqui Nagar, and according to local sources, no funeral in the area had ever seen such high attendance.
