Chennai: In a gross violation of human rights, a teenage girl from Chengalpattu who was selling children’s books at a traffic intersection in T. Nagar was beaten up by security guards employed by a posh hotel at around 4 pm on Friday in full public view.

Although several people watched the assault, nobody came to the rescue of the girl. The victim is part of a group of seven or eight school girls who come to the city during weekends to sell books and other items at road intersections. The attackers claimed that the girls were harassing the customers by forcing them to buy their products.
