Chennai: Several areas in Chennai received rainfall on Thursday. Till 5.30 pm, 18.6 mm of rainfall was recorded in Nungambakkam, while Meenambakkam received 4.4 mm. Categorising the rainfall as a convectional type and caused by winds blowing in the westerly direction, an official at the weather office said scattered rainfall activity could be witnessed throughout the state for the next few days.

The forecast for Chennai especially would be generally cloudy skies with light rainfall expected. Meanwhile, rainfall activity surrounding the Valparai region in Coimbatore district has not been encouraging so far this time around.

“Usually, by the first week of October, rain forests in Anamalai Tiger Reserve, including Valparai, will get heavy rains. The rainfall in the past few days had not been encouraging and the Sholayar river and its tributaries are not flowing in full stream. We are hoping for heavy rains by next week,” said a forest guard attached to the Indira Gandhi Wildlife Sanctuary.
