Kerala liquor ban: Ordinance signed to hike liquor prices
The new prices of all brands of liquor will be 12.70 percent higher

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Liquor prices in the state will go up by nearly 13 percent from Friday with Governor P. Sathasivam giving assent to the ordinance for the revised tax rates. Beer prices will go up by Rs 10 to Rs 20.
With the 20 percent additional sales tax and five percent cess effected by the government to mobilise additional revenue, the new prices of all brands of liquor will be 12.70 percent higher than the existing maximum retail prices.
The prices will be rounded off to multiples of tens. The government expects to mobilise Rs 1,130 crore through increase in tax on IMFL and Rs 100 crore on sale of beer and wine.
