Notice to 538 outfits receiving foreign aid

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: As many as 538 organisations in Kerala are among the 10,000-odd bodies in the country that have come under the Union Home Ministry’s scanner for not filing the mandatory annual statement of foreign funds received.
The foreigners division of the Home Ministry has issued them notices warning of cancellation of their registrations. Kerala could heave a sigh of relief as the number of defaulters is less here compared to other states, including Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka. However, with regard to the receipt of foreign funds, Kerala is at the sixth place in the country.
A whopping Rs 1,027.52- crore foreign contribution flowed into the state during 2011-12 through 1,648 organisations, says the latest report of the foreigners division. The total contribution received in the state during the previous year was only Rs 873.35 crore.
Believers Church India received Rs 190.05 crore during the year, the second highest in the country after World Vision of India in Tamil Nadu with Rs 233.38 crore. Mata Amritanandamayi Math with Rs 98.64 crore and Gospel for Asia (Rs 81.22 crore) are also among the top 15 recipients during 2011-12.
