Shidhadh, Rahil champions at chess tourney for blind

Kochi: A.M. Shidhadh of Kozhikode and Mohammed Rahil of Kasaragod came on top in the senior and junior levels at the All-Kerala Chess Tournament for the Blind, held at Little Flower Hospital, Angamaly, on Thursday.
P. Balaraman (Thiruvananthapuram) and E.P. Naushad (Kozhikode) in the senior category and Yadhu Krishna (Kottayam) and Ashok Kumar (Kasaragod) in junior category secured the second and third positions respectively. In all 68 people, including about 20 FIDE-rated players, participated in the tournament.
Actor Tini Tom distributed the cash prizes and trophies at the end of the two-day tournament, organized by the hospital in connection with the observation of World Sight Day with the support of Kerala Chess Association for the Blind. Little Flower Hospital director Fr Paul V. Madan presided.
Hospital joint director Fr Rogen Nangelimalil inaugurated the Integrated Rehabilitation Project for the Blind and the Insight Club which would implement programmes for the health and welfare of the Blind.
Optometry students of Little Flower Institute of Medical Sciences and Research organised a flash mob at KSRTC bus stand, Angamaly, to spread the message of World Singh Day.
