Police issues notices to GHMC on manhole tragedy

Hyderabad: The police has issued notices to GHMC seeking an explanation on the manhole death in Himayathnagar.
The police which had registered a case has started an investigation into the incident. The police had earlier questioned GHMC’s field engineers too. Notices were sent to the authorities to give their version about the manhole death. In the notice, the cops asked the authorities to give details about the tender contract, safety measures followed when the work was under progress, etc.
“Notices were issued seeking an explanation about the incident. Based on the report, a negligence case will be booked against those responsible,” said SI G. Jagan-nadh.
Police said the case which is now registered as a suspicious death, will be altered following the report.
Last week Hemanth Kumar Sahay, 66, fell into an open manhole and died on street number 6 near a Maruti showroom in Himayathnagar late on Saturday night. The incident came to light on Sunday. Mr Sahay was walking back home when he failed to notice the manhole and accidentally fell inside. However, the GHMC later said that though the contractor was asked to cover the manhole, he had not done so. The repairs were taken up in view of the XI Metropolis World Congress.
