THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The AICC is likely to issue a show-cause notice to Mr Shashi Tharoor MP for his comment praising Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Swachh Bharat’ campaign, it is learnt.

Meanwhile, Mr  Tharoor who reached the state for the first time after  his pro-Modi comments has refused to respond to the latest reports regarding the death of his wife Sunanda Pushkar. He  told reporters in his home town, Palakkad,  that he would comment on it only after the final inquiry report came  out.

But Mr Tharoor said he didn’t know the so-called cousin of Sunanda who had sought a CBI inquiry into her death. The reports regarding the reinvestigation into her death had cropped up after doctors at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences issued a new statement  pointing out that her death was caused by the presence of  poison  in her blood.

Sources said former  defence minister A. K. Antony, who heads the AICC disciplinary action committee,  has held talks with his colleagues, Mr Motilal Vohra and Mr Sushil Kumar Shinde, after the Congress president forwarded to Mr Antony the KPCC’s recommendation for action against Mr Tharoor.

It is  learnt that action would be taken  only after the Maharashtra and Haryana Assembly elections are over where Mr Vohra and Mr Shinde are currently campaigning,

“The AICC disciplinary committee will serve a show-cause notice to Tharoor and he will be given an opportunity to offer an explanation or an apology. The KPCC’s recommendation to the AICC leadership was that Tharoor should either apologise for eulogising Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Clean India’ campaign or he be removed from the official spokesperson’s role and  placed under suspension,”  said a top Congress leader.
