Four arrested for builder's murder
CoimbatoreA day after the brutal murder of a building contractor in full public view near Singanallur, the city police on Sunday arrested four persons, including a relative of the victim in connection with the crime, which was caused by a land dispute.

The police also seized two bikes and sickles that the assailants used. The culprits, G Vinodkumar (33), a cab driver had masterminded the murder of his relative R Rajaram Mohan, 56, with his friends M Vadivel (33),   B Kannan (25) and V Ranjith Guru (24).

The police said that Kannan, an associate of notorious rowdy Gym Hakkim, came out on bail only recently, after going to prison in a murder case.

It all began over a property dispute between the victim and Vinod Kumar. Rajaram’s wife Amsavalli, who is no more, had owned a house at Sivaram Nagar and three cents of land at Town Hall.

As the properties of Amsavalli were in possession of Rani, and her son-in-law Vinodkumar, the victim had moved the court to get them back.

Rajaram also filed a petition in the court seeking custody of his son, who is under the care of Vinod Kumar and his family.

Incidentally, six months ago, Vinodkumar had met with a mishap, which he thought was engineered by Rajaram. An irate Vinodkumar had then decided to kill Rajaram for which he took the help of his friends.

On Saturday morning, Vinodkumar and his three friends eliminated Rajaram barely 400 metres from the Singanallur police station. Rajaram was proceeding on his motorcycle from Kakkan Street to Trichy Road when the assailants signalled him to stop.

They picked a quarrel with him before hacking him to death with a sickle. The murder of a man in broad daylight in full public view sent shock waves among local residents.
