Hyderabad: Jilted lover attacks engineering student, attempts suicide
Accused tried to slit the girl’s throat with a sickle
Hyderabad: A vindictive youngster allegedly attacked his ex-girlfriend with a sickle before consuming poison at Arora Engineering college in Bandlaguda of Hyderabad on Monday morning. While the victim, M. Ravali, 17, a B.Tech student survived with multiple injuries, the attacker Ch. Pradeep Kumar succumbed to his injuries, in the hospital in few hours.
Police officials said that Pradeep and Ravali were in a relationship for a while, but later she backed off because of his abusive behaviour. Ravali’s parents approached the police after Pradeep tried to kidnap her. Cops suspect that he attacked her in order to take revenge.
The incident occurred at around 9 am while the girl was walking to her class. "He came with a plastic bag concealing a sickle and a bottle of poison. As she entered the campus he approached her from the side and swung the sickle before she could see him, causing injuries on her head, neck and shoulder. When a faculty member tried to catch him, he opened the bottle and drank it," said Sai Phani Teja, an eyewitnes in the incident.
Police said that he had planned the attack and followed her secretly in the morning.
While the girl was a first year B.Tech student, 21-year-old Pradeep was a student in another private college. Chandrayangutta police Inspector Mr. N. Rama Rao said that they have started an investigation into the incident.
Ravali has been shifted to DRDO Appolo hospital, and her condition remains stable, while body of Pradeep has been shifted to mortuary.
