New Delhi/Jammu: India has decided to aggressively counter Pakistan’s two-pronged strategy of simultaneously stepping up the heat on the border by heavily shelling Indian troops and also by approaching the United Nations to “internationalise” the border issue.

The BSF and the Indian armed forces have been directed to retaliate strongly to the firing and shelling on the Line of Control and international border “with no holding back”.

Stepping up heat, Pakistani troops heavily shelled 15 border outposts and hamlets, leaving three persons hurt, one of them seriously, in Jammu district Saturday night, that provoked strong retaliation by the BSF.

On Sunday, Pakistan also reached out to UN Secretary- General Ban Ki-moon against “Indian aggression” along the LoC, seeking a resolution of the Kashmir issue.

The Pakistan PM’s national security and foreign affairs adviser, Sartaj Aziz, wrote to the Secretary General to inform him of the “latest ceasefire violations” by India, and urged him to “resolve the Kashmir issue” in accordance with UN Security Council resolutions.

While the Indian government is yet to react officially to this latest move by Pakistan, the Narendra Modi government has made it clear earlier that any UN or third party intervention cannot be allowed on the “bilateral issue” of Kashmir. India has all along rejected any role for the UN.
