Vijayawada: The water level at Manginapudi and Pedapatnam beaches dipped abnormally, withdrawing as far as 150 metres. During low tide under normal circumstances, the sea withdraws up to 50 metres. However, on Saturday, it was observed that the water levels at beaches in Krishna district fell dramatically.

The dip in water levels could be gauged from the fact that the base of poles erected to caution swimmers about the water depth could be seen.
U. Srinu, a local fisherman said, “Normally, the water level at low tide time would be around the second pole indicator. However, on Saturday, even the base of the last pole, which is more than 100 metres away from the shore, was visible.”

Some fishermen went into the sea despite warnings. They were seen trying to guard their nets. The fishermen said they had not ventured out into the sea for three days following an alert by the administration.
