Hyderabad: Care and caution must be exercised after knee replacement surgery, say doctors after  Telangana State home minister Nayani Narashima Reddy developed a foot infection which spread to his knee implant.

He was admitted to Yashoda Hospital for treatment where it was found that the knee implant too was infected. Dr A.V. Gurava Reddy who had operated on the minister’s  knees in 2011 said, “He had undergone knee replacement surgery and the infection had spread from the foot to the knee. He had to be undergo operation again and the implant had to be cleaned and replaced.”

Dr Reddy said, “These patients have to be careful when they undergo dental procedures or are exposed to a virus as once the infection sets in, the bacteria are attracted to the implant and that can be life-threatening.”
