The BMTC invites people to complain on polluting buses

Bengaluru: It is said that nothing comes cheap and this is proving especially true for the Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC), which perhaps didn’t realize what was in store when it offered a reward of Rs 1,000 to anyone informing it of  its buses causing air pollution in the city.

Having received 343 complaints against its buses emitting noxious fumes from Bengalureans over the last month, it found on inspection of the vehicles concerned that 185 people were absolutely right in making their complaint. But in the process it now has to shell out  Rs 1.85 lakh as reward.

But clearly seeing this as money well spent, the BMTC is continuing with its drive. “Presently one team is working on the complaints received from the general public,” informs an officer, adding,  “This initiative was launched  to ensure that BMTC buses stop polluting the city. Public  feedback always helps us  improve our services.”

According to the BMTC announcement people can lodge  complaints on its website,  www.mybmtc.com. and it will be scrutinized every day by its officers looking for such feedback, which will help it take action against its polluting buses.
