The three men could not produce any bill or document relating to the seized gold
Kurnool: The Kurnool police has seized 16-kg of unaccounted for gold from a suspicious car in the wee hours on Tuesday near the head post office.
Three persons identified as Umar Khyatri, S.P. Manjunath and driver Srinivas came in the car with the registration number KA 02 C 9895 from Bengaluru. When circle inspector J. Babu Prasad and constables Vinod Kumar, Basha and Chandrasekhar intercepted the vehicle and questioned them, they could not give any satisfactory answer.
Doubting something amiss, the policemen thoroughly checked the vehicle and found 16 kg gold hidden in the form of 16 biscuits in the boot. The three men could not produce any bill or document relating to the seized gold.
On further questioning, the men said that they were carrying the gold from Bengaluru-based Raasi Jewellers to a businessman in Sharaf bazaar in Kurnool, who bought it. Cops are probing whether the businessman, who is supposed to have purchased the gold, has committed tax evasion.
