kozhikode: The central government has issued a notification instituting  a CBI probe into the  Manoj murder case, just weeks after the visit of Union home minister Rajnath Singh to the house of the slain RSS activist at Kathirur.  CBI sources confirmed  that the Thiruvananthapuram CBI office had received the notification.

“Our office has received the notification but details regarding the leading official and investigation team members are yet to be decided. We expect to complete the procedures soon,” a CBI special Crime Branch official told DC.

Mr Rajnath Singh had assured a CBI investigation into the murder of Manoj when he visited his house  on  Sep.26.

The Kerala BJP unit had also put pressure on the central government for a CBI probe suggesting that some senior CPM leaders could be behind the murder. The CBI will probe both the murder and the conspiracy that led to it.

The state government also backed  the idea and did not repeat the political games which were played to delay  a CBI probe into the murder of T.P. Chandrasekharan.

Neither the central government nor the state government had pushed hard for a CBI probe into the TP murder  though there was strong demand from  a large section of people, including TP’s wife, for it.  The CBI had also refused to take up the case.

In the  Manoj murder case, the interest taken by the Union government  became evident as the CBI  has decided to investigate it without any questions. A probe by the Crime Branch SIT has made good progress  and five  of the assailants  have been held.
