Hyderabad: A family’s haste to reach home to bury their dear one on the day Hudhud made landfall at Vishakaptnam, resulted in three more deaths.
The car in which they were travelling was washed away by the water from an overflowing drain on the National Highway at Tallapalem, near Anakapalle, Visakhapatnam. Three of the family members drowned and the body in the car's boot was washed away too.
The incident came to light on Monday evening. The deceased have been identified as Eswarapu Devudamma, Eswarapu Manikyam, and Eswarapu Nukaraju. All are natives of Gollapalli village.
Visakhapatnam rural superintendent of police Dr K. Praveen said, “That spot on the National Highway is dangerous during floods. At least eight cars were washed away on October 12. One ambassador car with three persons and a body was also washed away.”
Kasimkota SI of police P. Vijay Kumar said, “Appa Rao died due to ill health in Vizag. After the storm subsided a little, at around 3 pm, his family members left Vizag for Yalamanchali with the body. The Ambassador they hired was washed away. Those who were inside couldn’t come out as the doors were stuck. The driver managed to escape.”
