Hyderabad: Five cities in Telangana Hyderabad, Warangal, Karimnagar, Nizamabad and Khammam will be put on the fast track for all-round development soon.

Following this decision, Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao also ordered the launch of works relating to restoration of 45,300 tanks and other water bodies from December.

He will join all sections of people, including schoolchildren, in the campaign to restore water bodies, which are in a state of neglect due to silt and encroachments.

The government has also decided to set up a super speciality hospital at Narkatpally in Nalgonda district on the Hyderabad-Vijayawada highway and a 4,000 MW thermal power plant at Kothagudem, which will provide employment to 10,000 people.

Mr Rao took these decisions at a series of review meetings and also during interaction with Congress MLAs Komatireddy Venkat Reddy, Puvvada Ajay Kumar, TRS MLA Jalagam Vengal Rao and others who met him with regard to issues in their respective constituencies.

Mr Rao told them that he would personally focus on development of the five cities in Telangana, restoration of tanks and welfare schemes.

“These five cities will be the key cities in Telangana. I will personally supervise the development. Hyderabad drainage system is in disarray due to encroachment of nalas.

Water logging is frequent right in front of Raj Bhavan, Assembly, and CM’s camp office. We require about Rs 10,000 crore to improve the civic amenities,” Mr Rao  reportedly told the legislators.

While Khammam has no underground drainage system, in other towns they are in poor condition. “The government will focus on providing basic amenities in towns and villages,” he said.

Mr Rao told the legislators that after Hyderabad, Warangal was the second biggest city in Telangana and needs special attention. All the towns would be linked to a water grid. The government will ensure 135 litres of water per person daily, he added.
