Kottayam: A Malayali settled in Chennai has booked a Vallasadya at the  Sree Parthasarathy temple at Aranmula for the  speedy release of former Chief Minister  J. Jayalalithaa from prison.

Mr Sukumaran,  an AIADMK  sympathiser, made the booking a week ago at the insistence of  AIADMK activists in Chennai,  said Palliyodam Seva Samithi secretary  Ramesh R. Mohan.

“Sukumaran  registered the name of Jayalalithaa for conducting three Vallasadyas in August next year,” Mr Mohan told Deccan Chronicle. The ceremonial feast in which several persons will be fed during  the season of the Vallasadya is meant to please the Aranmula Parthasarathy (Lord Krishna). One booking of the Vallasadya  would cost around '50,000.

While film stars and cricketers have offered the ritual at the shrine earlier, this was for the first time that  it  would be performed in the name of a political leader from outside the state, Mr Ramesh said.  As part of the ritual, a sumptuous feast will be provided to the rowers of Palliyodams (snake boats) and other devotees.
