Hudhud a national calamity, says Chiranjeevi

Vijayawada: MP K. Chiranjeevi on Wednesday asked the Centre to declare Cyclone Hudhud, which has caused large-scale devastation in north coastal AP, a national calamity. He announced a donation of Rs50 lakh from his MP LADS for the cyclone relief fund.

According to estimates, Visakhapatnam alone has incurred damage to the tune of Rs60,000 crore. Some government departments have unofficially pegged the combined losses in districts of Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Visakhapatnam and parts of East Godavari at around Rs1 lakh crore.

Though the loss to human lives has been minimal, the overall damage has been huge, the actor-turned-politician said in a statement.
