Team finds no fault with operation theatres

Kochi: A three-member team from Kottayam Medical College visited the Ernakulam Medical College on Wednesday to inspect the two operation theatres that were closed following suspected infections originating from there.
The team comprising surgeon Dr Sunil, pediatrician Dr Jayakumar and Microbiology department head Sree Kumari inspected the premises from around 11 am to 5 pm. The team could not find any proof of the infection originating from the operation theatre. It will submit a report to the Director of Medical Education within two days.
Infection was reported from the gynecology and orthopedic departments of the medical college. Asked why one of the 40 swab samples taken from the operation theatre turned positive, Dr Suni responded that all factors have to be assessed in detail.
Dr K Praveen Lal, principal, EMC, said that the team did not convey anything to him. Meanwhile the Justice V R Krishna Iyer Movement said that they had got a reply from the Union Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan on Wednesday saying that their complaint on the infections had been forwarded to the secretary in the Central Health Ministry.
