Chennai: Two persons, including a village panchayat chief, were arrested by the Tiruvallur district police on Thursday for allegedly killing J. Ravi, a cousin of TN minister B.V. Ramana on Tuesday over a land dispute.

The police identified the arrested two as M. Venkitesan, 54, president of Sevvapet panchayat and L.Thirunavakkarasu, 45, a real estate broker.

“The dispute was over a property that the victim was trying to purchase in a nearby village,” the police said. Police probe indicated that the murder was over a three acre land that Ravi was trying to buy.

This was opposed by Thirunavukkarasu, who claimed ownership over the land and civil dispute case is also pending in a court. Over this enmity, Thirunavakkarasu approached Venkitesan to eliminate Ravi, the police said.

Ravi, a resident of Veppampattu village was hacked to death by an armed gang on Tuesday afternoon in front of his house.

He died as his father Jayaraman helplessly watched it from his shop nearby. Jayaraman, is an uncle of state dairy and milk minister Ramana.
