Man tries to rob ATM machine

Chennai: In yet another attempted break-in at an ATM centre, a masked man made a futile attempt to break open an ATM machine on Dr Besant Street at Ice House on Thursday.

The incident happened around 3 am at Lakshmi Vilas Bank ATM when the security guard Basha was sleeping outside, police said.  

Probe revealed that the man first damaged the CCTV equipment and wiring in the ATM and managed to break open the outer cover of the machine.

After a while, however he gave up and fled the scene. It was only after a while that the guard woke up and found the damages to the machine and alerted his security officer, police said.

Icehouse police personnel rushed to the scene and gathered evidences. An officer privy to the investigation said that they also have a CCTV grab of the suspect.

Police are also quizzing security guard Basha. Further investigations are on.
