Ayukta unearths assets worth Rs 4.6 crore in a raid

Four government officials houses were raided on allegations

BENGALURU: The Lokayukta sleuths conducted simultaneous raids on the houses of four government officials on allegations that they possessed assets disproportionate to their known sources of income. The Lokayukta sleuths unearthed illegal assets to the tune of around Rs 4.6 crore were during the raids.

The raids began early on Friday morning and were conducted in Bellary, Koppal, Mysore and Shimoga in 15 premises belonging to the accused government officials.

The officials who were booked under the Prevention of Corruption Act are T. Mareppa (Junior Engineer, Gulbarga Electricity Supply Company Limited, Khanahosahalli, Kudligi taluk, Bellary), B V Srinivas (Divisional Controller, Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation, Chikkodi taluk, Belgaum and former Divisional Controller, Mysore), Eshappa (Coordinator, Adult Education, Kustagi taluk, Koppal) and M Shivakumar (Assistant Engineer, Public Works Department, Shimoga).

Lokayukta police said that if any official’s assets is more than 30 per cent to their known sources of income, it will be considered as disproportionate assets. The searches were  going on till late in the evening. Some bank accounts and lockers are yet to be scrutinised.
