Former SIMI president Syed Salahuddin dies in car accident
He was on his way Hyderabad from Nalgonda when the accident took place
Hyderabad: Former president of Student Islamic Movement of India (SIMI) Syed Salahuddin, passed away in a car accident on Saturday.
Salahuddin, who originally hails from Nalgonda, was returning to his house at Baba Nagar, Hyderabad, after attending a family function.
“The driver, his friend, was trying to overtake a lorry, but due to over speed, he lost control and rammed on to the truck. Salahuddin, who was sitting on the co-passenger seat and sustained grievous injuries as the left side of the vehicle was heavily damaged," said a police officer from Nalgonda District police.
Though the 44-year-old was rushed to a corporate hospital in Hyderabad, doctors declared him dead. The driver escaped with minor injuries.
An engineering graduate, Salahuddin joined the Islamic group at a young age. He became the organisation’s national president in 1998 and bore the post till 2000.
Salahuddin was arrested by investigation agencies two years ago in connection with 2002 Saibaba Temple blast in Dilsukhnagar. He was also booked for an alleged hate speech at Ujjain in Madhya Pradesh.
After his retirement from SIMI, he had moved to Dubai, where he worked as civil engineer for over 10 years.
