Hyderabad: The police has solved the 8-kg gold robbery case in Saifabad within a week by arresting a five-member pseudo police gang, including the convener of the Telangana State Human Rights Organisation and a BTech student from VBIT.
Ornaments worth Rs 2.4 crore were recovered. The robbery was recorded by a surveillance camera installed at a petrol pump. The gang had carried out recces for three days before the theft. Posing as cops the gang robbed the victims.
The accused are Mohd. Azhar Mohiuddin, alias Yamin, 27, a convener of Telangana State Human Rights Organisation; Katta Sai Kiran, 21, a painter; Shaik Feroz, alias Feroz, 23, a fabric worker; Rathod Pratap Singh, alias Laddu, 22, a BTech final year student of Vignana Bharathi Institute of Technology.
These four are residents of Jagathgirigutta in Kukatpally. Another 22-year-old, Dasari Rahul, alias Tinku, a computer operator at Suraj Bhan Jewellers was also arrested.
Police commissioner M. Mahender Reddy said that MVS Jewellers, a Mumbai-based company, makes gold ornaments and sells them wholesale to jewellery stores across the country. Four representatives of this company came on October 8 with four kilos of gold ornaments, while two others came with another four kilos three days later.
They visited hundreds of shops including Suraj Bhan Jewellers in Abids. The accused plotted the robbery based on information given by Dasari Rahul, who works for Suraj Bhan jewellers.
“Last Sunday, the accused followed the victims to a HP petrol bunk, while they went to book tickets to leave the city and posing as cops from the crime branch demanded that they hand over the bag containing the gold.
They also said they suspected the victims were doing illegal business and were smuggling gold,” said Mr Mahender Reddy.
Police said the robbery was recorded in the surveillance cameras installed at the HP petrol pump at Lakdikapul. The footage was examined and based on that six teams were formed.
Working on the clues, the Central Zone team of the police commissioner’s task force and the Central Zone police jointly nabbed the culprits.
