After bail, O Panneerselvam, ministers receive Jayalalithaa
The mayors of Chennai, Coimbatore and Madurai corporations were present
BENGALURU: In wake of AIADMK chief J. Jayalalithaa’s release on Saturday, all the big names in TN government and the party were in the city to receive her.
Despite heavy rains, the politicians, including CM Panneerselvam, waited till Jayalalithaa walked free. Mr Panneerselvam had come in a special flight to the HAL airport at 11 am and then drove to the Parappana Agrahara prison.
His cabinet colleagues housing minister R.Vaithilingam, highways minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami, electricity minister Natham R. Viswanathan, higher education minister Palaniappan, health minister Vijay Bhaskhar, revenue minister R.B. Udhay Kumar, commercial tax minister M.C. Sampath and fisheries minister Jayapal, who have been camping in the city, waited for Jayalalithaa’s release for more than three hours. Lok Sabha Deputy Speaker of Lok Sabha had also come to receive her. The mayors of Chennai, Coimbatore and Madurai corporations were present.
All the political leaders took shelter under a pandal put up by the police. Mr Panneerselvam and his ministers were provided tea and biscuits. As it was raining, they took shelter in a shed attached to the house of prison official. While leaving in her car, Jayalalithaa waved at them.
