Visakhapatnam: AP DGP J.V. Ramudu on Saturday confirmed that some miscreants had looted the relief material meant for cyclone-hit victims, taking advantage of lack of power and little police patrolling.

The DGP, who reviewed to the situation in Vizag, said that additional forces would be deployed to prevent looting and robberies in the city. Few incidents of looting and robberies were reported at some parts of the city.

He said that they were focusing on providing security to the relief material as tonnes of relief material came from other states and districts and and also to public  and private properties
Increasing police patrolling round the clock will definitely prevent the crimes, he added.

Following the decision of Chandrababu Naidu, licenses would not be given for selling fire crackers and those already give would be cancelled, he said.
“Cops are also playing a vital role in relief and restoration works in the city,” he added.
