Kolkata: High on confidence following their back-to-back victories, Atletico de Kolkata will look to keep the momentum going when they take on a star-studded Delhi Dynamos FC in their Indian Super League match here on Sunday.
Luis Garcia’s men have played quality football since the franchise league kicked off last Sunday. They routed Mumbai City FC 3-0 in the opener, and outplayed NorthEast United FC 2-0 in Guwahati despite the latter’s strong local presence.
Dynamos, on the other hand, are yet to fire despite the presence of Italian World Cup winner Alessandro Del Piero. They settled for a goalless draw in their opening game against FC Pune City. Most teams have struggled so far to gel as a unit, despite big names in their ranks.
But Kolkata, with their rich Spanish flavour and only lesser known players, have surprised many with strong team bonding. Uefa winner and former Liverpool star Garcia has been at the heart of their raids and Fikru Teferra, who scored in both games, will once again be the cynosure of all eyes. It will be interesting to see how Dynamos, with Belgian Wim Raymakers and India’s Anwar Ali in central defence, contain Fikru.
NorthEast face Goa:
NorthEast United FC and FC Goa will look to record a vital win when they meet in Guwahati. NorthEast began their campaign with a win over Kerala Blasters, but lost to table toppers Kolkata in the next game.
FC Goa, on the other hand, fought tooth and nail only to be denied by Chennaiyin FC’s defence and their goalkeeper in their 1-2 defeat at home. If the Goan side win on Sunday, it will be Brazilian legend Zico’s first success in India as manager.
