Hyderabad: The North Zone police on Wednesday arrested four thieves, including a woman, who had accumulated 1kg of gold by stealing ornaments from women in buses and crowded places in Secunderabad. Police said that the gang had been involved in 24 cases in and around Secunderabad.

Those arrested are Avula Ganesh, 40, Golla Suresh, 25, Balija Prashanth Kumar, 28 and 36-year-old Boya Durga. A North Zone police team headed by SI M.S.V. Kishore trapped the gang.

Police said that the accused were involved in seven cases under the Mahankali police station, two in Gopalapuram, two in Market, two in Bowenpally and one each in Marredpally, Begumpet, Karkhana and Bollaram.

The main accused, Ganesh, was a dacoit in the notorious Peddinti Golla gang and was convicted for 13 years in a case. He was released eight years ago and had formed a pick-pocketing gang.

“He thought that the most of the pick-pockets were moving around scot free despite committing offences, and teamed up with Durga and the others,” said a police official.

The accused operated in buses during rush hours and crowded bus stops. They would create commotions while getting into buses, restraining the woman passengers and diverting their attention before stealing ornaments from their bodies.
