Highest opening day collection in Bollywood now belongs to Shah Rukh

The actor’s big diwali release has managed to collect 44.97 crores on day one

Mumbai: Farah Khan is a relived director as her film ‘Happy New Year’ has managed to get a record-breaking opening. A script, which she had for over 10 years and around 2 years of pre-production and releasing the film worldwide has received a thumbs up by the audience. Not just for Farah Khan, Shah Rukh Khan too has managed to earn a new record for himself. The day one opening record collection, which belonged to Aamir Khan for Dhoom 3, is now in the proud procession of Shah Rukh Khan.

When ‘Dhoom 3’ released last year, it had managed to collect around 36 crores, which in itself was a huge landmark in the Hindi film industry. However, within a year, Shah Rukh has now claimed the title of highest opening day collection.

Happy New Year has collected 44.97 crores on the opening day, with 42.62 crores in Hindi, 1.43 in Telugu and 0.92 in Tamil.

Salman Khan’s personal best achievement at the box office was from his recent blockbuster ‘Kick’. The Eid release managed to collect around 32 crores.

With strong word of mouth, over the weekend one can expect more footfall at movie halls that will help the film to achieve new records in the coming days.
