New Delhi: The deadlock over government formation in Maharashtra is expected to get over soon with the Shiv Sena and BJP striking a deal for a coalition government in the state.

By Monday, both parties are expected to bury the hatchet and sort out their differences. While the Sena appears to have given up its demand for key portfolios in the state, it has reportedly been assured of more berths at the Centre in the next Cabinet reshuffle.

Shiv Sena supremo Uddhav Thackeray, who skipped a meeting with BJP president Amit Shah in New Delhi over Diwali, reportedly spoke to him over the phone from Mumbai.

A senior Sena leader said Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s dinner on October 26 was only for the NDA MPs, and there was no question of Mr Thackeray attending or not attending it.

Despite the two parties splitting in Maharashtra ahead of the Assembly election, Shiv Sena leader Anant Geete is continuing as a Cabinet minister in the Modi government.

Sources said the PM could visit Mumbai on Saturday to inaugurate a hospital in South Mumbai, and speculation is rife that Mr Thackeray could meet him then.
