Hassan: The new state Janata Dal (S) chief will be announced by former Prime Minister H D Deve Gowda on November 5.

Revealing this on Friday,  former Chief Minister, H D Kumarswamy acknowledged that his name had been proposed by some party leaders for the post, but said the decision would be taken after holding discussions with Mr Deve Gowda  and other leaders of the party.

The Janata Dal (S) has been without a president since the death of Mr A Krishnappa a few months ago. Asked about the setting up of a core committee in the party, he said it  would be limited in size and claimed there was no confusion in the matter. “It will not affect the prospects of the party,” he added

As for  energy minister, D K Shivakumar’s comment that Mr Kumaraswamy should not hurl stones while himself being in a glass house, he said many allegations had been investigated against the Deve Gowda family, but no wrongdoing had been proved.

“My family is in politics on moral grounds and not to amass wealth. Let him (Shivakumar) dig and I am ready to face him,” he asserted.

Insisting that the government hold the winter session of the legislature in Belgaum, the JD(S) leader said the state government was reluctant to do so as it was afraid  of protests from farmers, particularly sugarcane growers.
