Cops to zero in on rowdy gangs
The police have decided to round up all the rowdies in the city and give them a stern warning
BENGALURU: Following the daylight murder of notorious rowdy Nakhra Babu in retaliation to the murder of rowdy Kavala, the city police have decided to crack down on rowdy elements in the city. The police have decided to round up all the rowdies in the city and give them a stern warning.
As part of the drive, the police have identified 45 rowdy gangs operating across the city and decided to call each one of the gang members and collect all details about them. “We have already taken steps to curb rowdy activities in the city.
But the recent Nakhra Babu murder has once again forced us to take tougher steps against rowdies. Thus, we are identifying the gangs operating in the city and no rowdy element will be spared.
We will call them for an enquiry and all details such as their addresses, work, sources of income, association with other rowdies or budding rowdies, mobile phone numbers, etc. will be collected from them,” a senior police officer said.
The police top brass have reportedly entrusted the work of collection details of the rowdies to the Organised Crime Wing (OCW) of the Central Crime Branch (CCB). The OCW is coordinating with all the police stations and are preparing a list of rowdies, who has to be called in for an enquiry.
“Once the enquiry is done and if we find out any of them are involving in any anti-social activities, we will take suitable action against them. They could be arrested, detained under Goonda Act or let free after a stern warning - its all based on their involvement in criminal activities,” the officer added.
Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime) P Harishekharan told Deccan Chronicle that the review will be done soon after Diwali and this is being done to pass out a stern warning to criminals.
