Kottayam: It was a terrible tragedy that the family of Peter James of Aarpookara Kachapallyyil house was least prepared for.  Peter,  a male nurse at  the Balwanth Singh hospital in Georgetown, capital of  Guyana in South America, was stabbed to death by the local goons who robbed his mobile phone while he was celebrating Diwali with his friends on a beach on Thursday.

His twin brother Joseph James, who is 15 minutes younger to Peter, said, “Peter’s marriage was fixed with a staff member working in the same hospital in January. The tragedy occurred as we were hoping for a get-together.  He had told me that he would  find a good bride for me too and wanted me also to settle down in Guyana.”

It was Joseph who had first gone to Guyana as a male nurse in  2008. Later, Peter also joined him. Joseph, however, returned to Kerala in January this year for studying IELTS.

Recalling his stay in Georgetown, Joseph said that the law and order there is very bad  and that those working in Georgetown have no security. “Often we come across shooting during day time between the criminals and the police,”  he added.

Peter was the backbone of the family. We are shattered after the incident,”  K.P. James, father of Peter, told Deccan Chronicle.  The family comprising his  wife Rosamma  and daughter Jessy has been living in a rented house for the last eight years after the hollow bricks company owned by James went into loss. His entire property was sold to settle the debts and still he has to repay several lakhs of rupees. James was formerly the local committee secretary of the CPM and is still a party activist.
