42mm rain: Hundreds of houses flooded, traffic hit
The Met department officials said that the city received 41.7 mm rainfall
Bengaluru: Hundreds of houses in Kamakshipalya, Yelahanka and JC Road were flooded after heavy and sudden showers on Saturday evening. The rains battered the city for nearly two hours, disrupting traffic on Mysore Road, Richmond Circle, Shantinagar, Majestic and other areas.
Trees got uprooted in Malleswaram, Jayanagar Fourth and Fifth Blocks, M.C Layout in Vijayanagar and Chamarajpet, the BBMP control room said. On Mysore Road, an empty BMTC bus submerged, affecting the movement of traffic for nearly an hour.
Assistant Executive Engineer Praveen L. said the bus was under repair and was parked on the roadside before it was flooded. “The bus was empty and no one was affected,” he said.
Mayor N. Shantakumari and BBMP Commissioner Lakshminarayan rushed to the control room in the night and monitored the operations. Water logging complaints were reported from Sirsi Circle, Le Meridien underpass, Richmond Circle, Cauvery Junction and Shivananda Circle.
The Met department officials said that the city received 41.7 mm rainfall. Heavy rains are expected in the next few days, they added.
