Hudhud loss in Vizianagaram is Rs 800 crore
Thousands of poles had fallen; a large number of transformers and towers were destroyed
Vizianagaram: Losses due to Hudhud cyclone in Vizianagaram district have been increasing day by day.
Three days back, as per the authorities assessment, it was around Rs 400 crore and now it reached Rs 700 crore. Still, the enumeration is going in all mandals and the authorities are expecting the loss will be around Rs 800 crore. They said that the district never faced such a disaster. Horticultural crops in 12,300 hectares and other food and commercial crops like paddy, sugarcane were damaged in 28,297 hectares. In all, 14 people lost their lives. Panchayatraj department had claimed the loss for the department is Rs 159 crore.
Apart from this, the government had spent around Rs 60 crore through medical and health department for rehabilitation works and for conducting medical camps in coastal areas. EPDCL is the main loser in this disaster and faced a loss of Rs 44 crore. Thousands of poles had fallen and a large number of transformers and towers were destroyed.
Government buildings like hospitals, schools, staff quarters and some buildings in the collectorate were damaged and the loss is assessed at Rs 91 crore.
The authorities are still enumerating the losses.
