Avoid extreme steps, Jayalalithaa tells supporters

Chennai: AIADMK general secretary J. Jayalalithaa on Saturday urged her supporters not to resort to the extreme step of attempting suicide due to depression over her Bengaluru court conviction. She expressed confidence she would overcome all challenges successfully.
In a statement, the former CM said as many as 193 persons had died following the court verdict and some of them committed suicide. Also 26 more died since October 19 when she came out on bail. She also expressed condolences to the bereaved families.
“I am confident that I will come out of the case victoriously overcoming all challenges with God’s help. Therefore, I request the people of Tamil Nadu not to resort to any extreme steps,” she said while announcing relief sums of Rs3 lakh to each of the bereaved families from the AIADMK funds.
