Chennai: DMDK leader Vijayakanth on Saturday declared he would be the ‘Chief Minister candidate’ of the NDA in the 2016 assembly elections in the state. “Rajnikanth has declined the BJP’s request to lead the NDA and so I am the natural choice for the NDA and for Prime Minister Narendra Modi to be the CM here,” he told his cheering lieutenants at the final session of the two-meet of the district secretaries at the DMDK headquarters here.

Mr Vijayakanth also declared that the DMDK would have no truck with either the DMK or the AIADMK “since both are corrupt”. His party would emerge as the alternative to the two Dravidian majors, he insisted. He called upon the party functionaries to shed their ‘relaxed mood’ and plunge into serious preparations for the next elections. The party machinery would be revamped based on the recommendations made by the district secretaries, he said while exhorting his followers to “reach out to people.”
